Do you actually honestly understand what youre talking about? Not a bait just a genuine question from a lurker

Anonymous No. 16303708

Fuck no.

I mostly lurk hoping to sit in on a discussion involving the few here that do.

Here's are some rules of thumb: 1) every truth claim must be verifiable by observation 2) every truth claim must be questioned with: who benefits?

I always wonder if I know what I am talking about.
1) Physics is the foundation of the universe and everything else emerges from this level via computation (at least in our current understanding).
2) Psychology tells us how the universe can be reflected on itself. Consciousness is really the only thing that exists.
These are the 2 pillars of a theory of everything. The foundational hard science and the foundational soft science.
Then we also have morality, so we need to ensure max well-being or minimization of suffering or some shit like that.
It should be impossible for people who torture others to exist. Unfortunately, a living hell is a possibility in this world, and we aren't doing enough to stop it.

If it's geology and paleontology, yes. I studied that, that's what I got my degrees in. Much reading, many field trips, many sample analysis.

Dude, most of the fucking retards on this specific board can't even formulate meaningful English sentences. This schizo word salad bullshit on sci is literally worse than /x/

More than ever because i embraced the scientific method IRL and also the "show, dont tell" attitude.

Maybe half the time.

I'm a mechanical engineer and I know bullshit, conjecture, and manipulation when I see it. I only post honest replies and only if I know what I'm talking about.
90% of this board is trolling from the /pol/ or anti-science crowds (or those pretending to be), but sometimes there are real threads that even get me looking into new things which is why I still come here. Oh, and the schizoposts are fun to read.

Only if they're novel

Sure, when it is in my field (Physics). If it is adjacent to my field I make reservations.
I agree mostly with >>16303724 with the exception that we never know a truth outside mathematics, we just have a theory or hypothesis that we have not been able to disprove.

Would you say this is a truth that you know which is outside mathematics?

Within my field? Maybe 75% of the time, and the other 25% I can usually cobble together an educated shot in the dark.

Outside my field? Fuck no.

Pretty much me unless its one where I'm a decently well read layman
