tradies are having this exact same problem now too. Starting positions are requiring people to have like 4 years of experience because dumb fuck HR cunts want the most qualified person for any position and are too stupid to realize it's literally impossible to get a starter job with experience. It's literally just corporate fluff to make the job seem better than it is.
Also, if you went to a good college, they would have had you doing applied [insert STEM job here] while you were on campus. If you did projects that had you actually doing real calculations for real world scenarios and building stuff, you can write that in as experience. You can also intern for like 6 months at a place and then start applying for jobs at the end of that 6 months so you can get a better paying job.
There are lots of coding schools for example that will have you creating a website or some other digital projects as part of your education. The experience gained from doing that is worth hundreds of times more value than just reading through books and studying bullshit nobody cares about.
>>16304544
If you want a job, what you need to do is to create something with your cs knowledge. Literally any sort of project like a website that shows what you are capable of. Then you can list that on your resume. You don't have to work for someone else in order to gain industry experience. Seriously, just start making websites for people until you have a nice portfolio, then you can walk into an interview and showcase what you've done and tell them how you solved problems for a variety of people and how your specific knowledge was utilized for different needs for different websites. I've seen people get coding jobs with 0 formal education because they actually coded shit and created stuff rather than just going to get a piece of paper, but if you do both, you stand out amongst everyone by default

Sure there are, you might have to leave your little irrelevant hamlet to get started though.
>hundreds of thousands of dollars in student debt
If you have hundreds of thousands in student debt, you are a confirmed moron. A B.S. degree at a reputable state University costs maybe 100k total if you live high on the hog, get no aid, no scholarships, parents don't help you at all, and you have no job/internship/co-op to pay for it. If you got duped into going to a private college for some reason then I guess I really don't have that much sympathy for you.
You have been given great gifts and you squander them and act like a privileged child like you are owed a standard of living. Grow up, look for jobs, even if they're 1000 miles away, then move away from home and move on in your life.

Well that settles it then, keep sulking and bitching on forums like here then. I was in the same scenario and moved halfway across the country for four years to build my resume out and be able to compete better. I moved back last year to a small city about two hours away from my home city. Good luck anon serving tables, at least you're not a bagger boy at a local grocery store like I was.

lolno. A very hefty portion of people working rn in trades are 60 going on 70, desperate for someone to come replace them so they can retire. Covid only intensified it by convincing scores of boomers to retire early to avoid exposure or dealing with the bs.
I've job hopped like 6 times in the past 4 years, multiple times even quitting without having anything lined up and I haven't been unemployed longer than 3 weeks.

>tfw top 2% on ACT and SAT, two engineering degrees (one from an engineering-only uni) and internships through college.
A decade after graduating I've only worked one contract job in my field for a bunch of Indians and now don't have enough credentials to get a job in my field (dad got cancer in the middle of nowhere, too, which took a year, he made it). Age 35 never had $2k at a time in my life, never had a job with health insurance.
It turns out people would rather hire someone that fits in than someone who paid attention in school. Big surprise.
I feel you, OP, I gave up on life a few years ago. It's all drug abuse and suicide from here.

Wait for a year, get by, figure out a niche you want to work in, get yourself 2 years of experience (even in open source for free).

Oh yeah, great. Born with a terminal illness that costs over $1k / month just to live, hence why I went into engineering to provide for myself. No job, no insurance, no inheritance, I'd die in 4-7 days without medicine and the cheapest obamacare plan is over $700 / month (yeah, they totally don't charge you more for preexisting conditions lol).
Not OP, but I need a fucking job or it's crime or suicide.

Focus on power and you're perfectly fine. Focus on other analog and you can be good but need an internship or connections to get in the door somewhere first. Focus on digital and it's the same as analog except you have to develop a fucking rosetta stone to wade through all the bullshit job titles and positions to find 0.01% of things that are actually relevant to you. If I didn't mention your focus you're probably good, but will need help actually finding the jobs that need your skills. If you're specializing in computer engineering, don't bank on the computer science side, but don't skimp on it either.
One of the problems you'll face is that all your learning doesn't even cover half of its real world application. If you've enjoyed circuits, ask some of your (analog) professors what a FMEA, FHA, or sneak circuit analysis is. If I knew about safety analysis back in undergrad I probably would have leaned into it much earlier than I did.

K then fag. You realize the market will become saturated with a pile of young talent like STEM/Computer Science, and then Law before that was? Maybe we should all pivot into Economics instead.
Issue is people always pursuing the easiest path and over-saturation. What's worse about trades is you're not nearly as transferable. What can an electrician do if he can't become an apprecntice? How about a mill-wright? HVAC tech? Car mechanic? Where do you fucking go when they won't hire you? CS can at least fall into vaious IT roles and field tech roles. What happens with you when the labor market works against you?

fuck that. Open source is the reason we have all those turd worlders taking your job.
I remember when there was no open source and those turd worlders were churning out complete crap.
When you open source, you dont just open source your product, you open source your mind and your intuition which these turd worlders dont have.
You cant outwork these turd worlders but you have the intuition to move in a better direction and you give it away for free.

>l illness that costs over $1k / month just to live,
Dude. Everyone has some type of illnesses and handicaps.
My cost of living is around $4K / month, alone.
I got screwed and scammed into a large house during last bubble. Just taxes are $1K/ month .
Plus repairs, grass, snow this and that another $1K / month. I am out $2K / month just before I start on the 1st of each month.
People manage.
>and the cheapest obamacare plan is over $700 / month
If you have some disease ........ not sure, I think you need to look around. Federal has Medicare(?) and each state has different programs that you can apply for. Ask around in your state - ask accountants, call several insurance agents / brokers. Women get this stuff for free all the time, they know who to call and where to get services, you just need to find out who knows this.
