can someone explain how being on a planet where days are longer/or whatever causes time to dilate so someone in space around the planet would age quicker or slower? happens on interstellar and it made me realize ive never understood how time could be altered when it passes the same speed for all of just days or years can be longer. If it wouldnt have worked like that in the movie if there is another way that time could move at different speeds for someone making the other person older I would really like to understand.

That's not what happens in Interstellar. The time dilation is NOT because of the rate at which the planet rotates. So you see, the source of your confusion is you being too retarded to follow the plot of a movie. I hope this helps.

thats why i asked why the time dilated if it didn't have to do with that, i havent seen the movie in years and i dont remember what caused the dilation, thus the thread you useless nigger

how does a black holes gravitational pull cause the time dilation?

i think it was due to the planet being close to the black hole
being close to a black hole slows you down relative to the rest of the universe
so they spent maybe half an hour on the planet but each minute was a whole year back on earth

might be due to the extreme gravity, time is being stretched out to infinity
i'm wondering why the same happens with time if you fly really fast in a spaceship

the pull area is matter compressing => space compressing => v(light, constant) = d / t, where d increases then t is stretches
simple elementary math my friend

i get that its because of gravitational pull but Im trying to understand how gravity can affect a person that way, i can imagine time perception changing but to change the speed at which things age, does that mean atoms are moving much slower? what is it changing exactly

the more gravity you are under. the slower your time ticks.
gravity, space, time and light are all interchangeable. but if you have to ask the question directly then its probably still a skill issue as to why you cant understand it. you can beat einstein i believe in you.

This but not light, light is an electromagnetic wave not part of spacetime itself, and gravity is the bending of spacetime

I really liked the planet with the giant waves and stuff
that looked really cool
even though it was utter nonsense

might just've been that the planet orbiting close to the black hole had to be orbiting very quickly to avoid falling, if so its just like light n shit

A person living in a high altitude area on Earth has less time distortion than a lower altitude person. We are barely talking seconds over a lifetime, but it shows that there is a difference.

Gravity waves are also part of the EM spectrum. They have a varying frequency and wavelength though.

>Gravity waves are also part of the EM spectrum
No, they are not. Gravity waves are waves though spacetime which is a different field that electromagnetism.

Electromagnetic tide goes in, electromagnetic tide goes out. You can't explain that.

It doesn't, retards who parrot this shit have zero clue what relativity is and think it's some magic timey wimey wibbly wobbly shit

The water planet was in a close orbit to the black hole, which means the people on it had a higher velocity relative to the guy who stayed on the ship in a distant orbit of the black hole.
Realistically, they would experience time dilation in such a scenario, but the severity of it is greatly exaggerated to make the movie more dramatic. The movie takes many liberties with the scientific accuracy.

Time moves slower in high gravity and when moving... you now understand time dilation

retard post
time dialation is created by acceleration (both due to gravity and unballanced force acting on object)
relative velocity of object has nothing to do with it (and claiming so is also double retarded because of relativity of movement)

Acceleration does not cause time dilation on its own. Time dilation is determined by integrating your world line to get the proper time.
