Electric energy leaks out as heat by nonzero resistance. Still keeps powered for a long time though; sometimes I plug my AC into this setup in the summer to save on electricity

technically if the wire inside was made of a superconducting material the electrons would have no resistance and just flow in a loop forever creating a sort of permanent electromagnet
