Yes, self-improving AGI would be the last human invention, but we aren't going to make it there because a lesser form of AI will enable the average person to create viruses and other WMD at home relatively inexpensively, so we're going to wipe ourselves out within the next 20 years. Imagine a virus that is lethal, highly contagious, and has an incubation period of six months or more. Now imagine several of these being created and released around the world at any given time by various misanthropes.

We’re pretty fucking close to robo waifus. Most of the current technical problems have work arounds, really the only thing bottlenecking the whole thing is a light weight precision linear actuator that behaves like real muscle.
