Why are extra dimensions such an effective midwit filter? It seems midwits cannot entertain the thought of extra dimensions. They cannot visualize more than 3 dimensions + time.

No one can visualise them. It's not possible. You can understand them, but you can't visualise them.
Time is not a dimension.

Extra dimensions are just a place to store information. Like how a 2d torque problem stores the rotation force in a direction normal to the plane it exists on. The 3rd dimension in such a problem simply stores information about rotational magnitude and direction.
