I mean a private individual paid a private company for this mission, and donated a bunch of money to a children's hospital. What's the scam? What's the angle? There's no reason to fake something like this, and if they had millions of dollars to toss around they certainly would've done a better job! He looked like a puppet for the first few seconds. Why would they put a video out there where it looks fake? If they're lying about the rest, they could just lie about it being live, so why the unconvincing video? It just doesn't make sense. Sometimes cool stuff happens, this is one of those times

Space X gets in the papers again, keeping the meme alive. the negative karma of telling such a lie is offset by donating to a childrens hospital.
idk you have a point, and a space walk is not unfeasible, but space tech will always be hampered by the way cheaper costs of just faking it and pocketing the difference.

If you do the math, the angle that the Earth takes up in your view scales like
ฮฮธ = 2*Arcsin(R/(h+R))
ISS orbits at about 400 km. Which means it takes up about 140 degrees of your view.
PD went to an altitude of 1400 km. Which would be 110 degrees.

how did you derive that? and what do you mean by angle taken up? the further away you are the more extreme the curvature should be so how is an angle declining with distance proving anything at all? sounds like BS.

im assuming this is what you meant?
ok well maybe that tracks. but you got the numbers wrong. its 147 and 120, so you didnt use a calculator?
im willing to take the L on this one, as that does track, i just assumed that the relative distances of altitude of spacewalks was not sufficiently large to impact the angles in any noticeable way. the more you know. i am just assuming you arent fibbing about the altitudes though.

sure, but that just means that you're seeing more of the earth across a narrower angle, which means the curve is more noticeable the farther away you are.

its the same kind of effect as if you take a photo of the horizon at low altitude (IE. Stood on the beach) and then compress it horizontally - the very very slight curve is made more visible by seeing it across a narrow field of view.
