🧵 my question to sci is if stem is cooked why haven't you turned to crime yet?

the market, economy and school system are looking bad for stem, and as time goes on there are more and more breakthroughs in AI. If this continues a substantial amount of the market will be unemployed in the future and school will become entirely meaningless if there are intelligences far greater than it at anything a human can do while also automating their work completely. Currency will eventually lose its value and the economic system will be put flat on its head. I don't see ubi solving this either. so whatever little future sci and stem people have left now if they are not in high economic standing/wealth will stand to lose a lot, and I mean a lot by each technological breakthrough that happens by 2029. Because the advancements themselves will cost substantial money to get involved with, exploit or use. e.g. I kinda of consider these 3-5 years maybe even 10 the last couple years to become wealthy. after that we may return to like a feudal like class where the wealth disparity is soo much we have surfs/poor people, and hyper rich people who own everything with nothing in between.

Stem is not dead. We still have biotech and neurobiology to focus on.

I’ve gotten up into management, can’t automate sitting in bullshit meetings and playing politics for budgets.

In 100-200years STEM is gonna end up like philosophy; solved thousands of years ago by true geniuses while people in other fields think they understand it. (Materialism < Dualism < idealism)

OP here--> The nobel prizes in physics, literature, and chemistry have all been awarded to AI this year. Literature chatgpt, chemistry alphafold demis hassabis, and physics geoffrey hinton neural networks.

this whole thinking is false geniuses what? we aren't living in the 20th century anymore there aren't lone scientists publishing crazy papers and breakthroughs in science by themselves anymore. Its now all teamwork of groups of smart people to penetrate the deepest problems. You can spend 20+ years educating someone in one stem discipline/sub division of it. This is nonsense like the nobel prizes from now on everything that is improved upon/discovered will be AI through AI or on AI. The precipice of human intelligence is now over. From here on out were waiting on superintelligence and the singularity to happen

you won't have time for 100-200 years geoffrey hinton is already setting up his affairs to be ready we have less than 4 years left.
\"Geoffrey Hinton for example, who was one of the major developers of deep learning is in the process of 'tidying up his affairs'. He believes that we have 4 years left.\" - Prof. Stuart Russell, April 25, 2024 (Posted <t:1728483565:R>)
