science is collecting data and filling up small pieces of a puzzle. because we're so advanced, there's a lot of pieces to fill in. you're probably waiting for a breakthrough like GR theory or something, but thats entirely unique and obviously requires even more complex thinking than Einstein did in his time. breakthroughs happen all the time but you simply don't understand the material so you just hope for something big and flashy that you can grasp like "particles have been observed travelling faster than light in vacuum, a new mathematical model of particle physics is being developed!"
