🧵 CICO Debunked???

Anonymous No. 16430325

I’ve heard many things related to the idea that dieting, exercising and “willpower” to losing weight is a meme that doesn’t reflect the reality.

Most of these points I heard related to
>glp-1 agonist drugs
>the Kurzgesagt exercise video
>the powdered food rat study
>difference is BMR
>hormones (different levels of cortisol and testosterone make it harder somehow)

I want to know the truth about all this. Can someone explain in detail the truth about weight loss, about what we know about it, and what it really comes down to, and to explain why some people struggle to lose weight while others don’t?

How could it possibly be the case that thermodynamics ceases to work in the human gut?
In other words, is there one single fat yogi fasting in the mountains of India or whatever?
If you don't eat for a month do you not lose body mass?

Calorie burn is surprisingly variable
You can get shot up with insulin (like a type-1 diabetic) and it will get your body to turn more calories into fat instead of making you warmer and making you grow hair and nails faster
AFAICT people are fat for lots of different reasons
- oops ate 500 calories over maintenance three times a week
- lowered metabolism from unsaturated fats
- eat foods that don’t sate you
- stressed all the time which jacks up cortisol which causes your body to shunt calories to fat instead of something useful
- sleep like shit all the time, jack up cortisol, see above
- drink lots of soda, causing giant calorie overages
- not wanting to be hungry…ever
- being mortally afraid of day-destroying hunger headaches
- more than one of the above
I could go on

The truth is you're lazy and addicted to cheap pleasure. Don't feel too bad, this applies to 90% of the population. "All diets fail" is something the 90% tells themselves so they can feel good about being lazy hedonists. Yes, eating less calories than you expend is the solution. No, you won't do it, at least not for very long. You will waste countless hours pursuing all manner of fairy tales to justify your failures. You'll learn nothing and your life will continue to degrade. But at least you'll have your fairy tales and be in good company with the rest of the 90%.
Everything you need to know about how to lose fat (not just weight, but body fat) is in the Minnesota Starvation Study. Because you're part of the lazy 90%, I'll even extreme Cliff Notes it for you: maximizing fat loss is achieved by having a calorie deficit per day equal to the calories in 0.8% of your stored body fat. That's it. That's all you need to know. Go over 0.8% and you start fucking up your metabolism and all manner of biological systems, especially if you do it for multiple days in a row.
Not that this information will help you because as part of the 90%, you are doomed to be exactly what you are: a lazy hedonist. Enjoy the comfort of your fairy tales.

CICO doesn't work because there are no "calories" in the real world
"calorie" is supposedly a unit of energy, so it's physics envy, they want nutrition to be as rigorous as thermodynamics
but there are none, I stress none, mechanisms in the human body that are functions of calories
we eat food, that food is made of carbs, fibers, fat and protein
where are these "calories"???
these small building blocks of energy lol

How does ozempic disprove CICO? It works by suppressing appetite, that's why they eat less calories and lose weight. This proves that CICO works and eliminates the need for willpower

>This proves that CICO works and eliminates the need for willpower
>proves that CICO works
>eliminates the need for willpower
are you retarded? the opposite was proved
if CICO worked, then counting calories would make people lose weight
instead changing their appetite was the thing that worked
you got the causality backwards
it's like changing the wheels on a car to fix it, then you say "hehe changing the tires worked"

Most people either lie about their caloric intake or are too retarded to count properly. When you stick them in a metabolic ward and control their whole diet, they lose weight

There are many reasons for weight gain. I think some of the main issues are:
>A lot of the processed food we eat is flavoured to trick our senses into thinking food that is bad for us is actually good.
>anxiety has increased 10 folds past 50 years. This anxiety is coped with by over eating or eating majority foods that hit dopamine receptors. Instead of dealing with the issue of the underlying anxiety we deal with the symptom of anxiety itself.
>lack of movement in daily life for basic things. Going up the stairs rather than the elevator, walking to work or simply having play be physical has impacted our ability to use energy, so many people who generations ago were affective at using thst energy for their daily lives all of a sudden do not have the same lifestyle.

The current way we live our lives has done this to us. Going to the gym is fucking gay and boring. Your ancestors did not waste their time lifting heavy things for the sake of lifting heavy things.

Being forced into not eating what is available to you due to it being unhealthy is not something our ancestors dealt with, it was either edible or not.

Being able to deal with bordom via physical play was the only option your ancestors had, maybe reading a book but that is nothing in comparrison to current acts of entertainment.

We are in a completly different environment of senses and technology that our bodies are not adapted to.
The enemy is unseen and manipulative, he is constantly bombarding you with stimulus and subtle tactics to feed your anxiety and do what he wants you to do.
The only way out of this is to acknowledge this new reality and learn to navigate it in a way where we do not lose ourselves to it in the process.
This environment is not easy, and boomers who keep mitigating this issue are doing nothing but pepetuate it and reinforce the delusion that nothing has changed, we are just weak.

most people can't actually follow simple instructions well. its why many people have trouble getting non-stem degrees/their shit together until they are like late 20s and early 30s because the ability to follow instructions and set goals for long periods of time is also a personality trait (conscientiousness) that increases with age to a degree.

Anonymous No. 16431406

it was always a retarded /fit/ meme and its not remotely that simple due to huge variations in how people metabolize shit. OP raises a very good point that ozempic invalidates CICO because it acts as a metabolic equalizer and allows people who would find it immensely hard to lose weight do it much much easier

So what we're talking about is satiety signaling? which is why cico is far to simplistic to be taken seriously

Anonymous No. 16431535

>>16431521
i mean satiety signaling only matters if you lack willpower. Not saying it isn't utterly miserable to have to rewire your brain. I had to go from
>350 pounds, 6'3 with the attention span of a coked up rat addicted to all sorts of shit
to
>215lbs engineering student
in about a year. It was the most miserable, brutal grind of my life. Nothing since has even come close. It is rational to give credit to fatties that struggle sincerely with their weight and dietary habits whilst also refusing to entertain outright falsehoods regarding fitness and general health, especially if these falsehoods are rooted in coping mechanisms meant to help these people get through the day.

Anonymous No. 16432149

>protein is very hard to use as energy, moderately easy to store, easy to excrete as waste, very hard to convert to fat
>carbs are very easy to use as energy, easy to store as glycogen, easy to excrete, moderately difficult to convert to fat
>fat is moderately difficult to use for energy, easy to store as fat, easy to excrete

CICO works with that in mind. Fat is hard to lose even in a moderate deficit if you're often eating carbs, you can't easily convert fat into energy under normal metabolic conditions, your body would much rather go through your carb stores. Being in a deficit doesn't invalidate normal metabolism, you're only converting fat to energy when it's convenient for your body to do so.

Anonymous No. 16432155

>>16432149
Should add that even though it's not efficient, metabolism of macro nutrients never really stops. You never completely stop burning fat in the presence of carbs, it's just not efficient. CICO works.

If you eat HFCS it makes you hungry and turns directly to fat and is stored.
That's all you need to know.
It's been known for 50 years.
Don't eat frctose in enormous amounts and thats all you have to do literally.

Anonymous No. 16432771

>>16430333
It's about understanding behavior and what drives eating retard.

You are hungry when you have low blood sugar and no energy to function.
HFCS makes you hungry by storing the calories immediately, which means they can't be used for energy. So you eat more.

Now, of course if you power through being hungry then you'll not gain weight.
But obviously people can't do that.
So society should adjust to a diet that doesn't require you to feel like you ate starving all day just to maintain weight.

Anonymous No. 16433330

I've been on antipsychotics for the past few years and it is impossible to lose weight on them, at least with my biology. I've tracked everything I've eaten to ensure a caloric deficit for weeks at a time with no change in weight except for water weight loss associated with keto in the initial stage. I lost about 40 pounds following this exact same protocol prior to being on medication. There is definitely something more to losing weight than just CICO.

The whole point of keto's high fat diet to is suppress your appetite so you end up in a calorie deficit. Amazing how many people have opinions about keto without knowing even the most basic things about it.

Anonymous No. 16433452

>>16433352
The whole point of keto is that your body readily converts stored fats into ketones in the absence of carbohydrates, aka you burn fat on keto by default. Has nothing to do with suppressing appetite.
