Nuclear Winter is mostly debunked so your volcano comparison is pointless. The real danger in nuclear war isn't the ejecta the gets up into the sky, it's the damage to capital infrastructure, physical and human, and the massive amounts of radiation injected into the environment, especially in those areas where ground blasts are used instead of air blasts.

Russia has destroyed their economy and lost most troops in the last 2 years than the US has in the last 70. What a win.

Also nuclear war would suck for everyone, not just people living in cities. Good luck getting the fuel needed to run the trucks and combines to farm and move product and feed livestock. People in small towns of 15k or less will be forced to move to camps where they can actually get food and clean water.

If any of the nuclear powers thought it was not that bad then nuclear weapons would have been used again. There is constant war, constant killing, very large scale weapons development, manufacturing, sales, and use. All of the weapons design and testing is to make weapons more efficient killing machines, so why not just use any of the 80,000 nuclear wareheads that were already developed? They very expensive to develop, why no one uses them?
