Are there other Klein shapes? Or is it just the Klein Bottle

Mobius strip is the 2D analogue. Then you have higher dimensional ones.

mobius strip is cool as fuck because it actually exists

pretty sure you can buy a klein bottle.
Didn't some guy ruin himself by creating an surplus of klein bottles for a non-existing market?

>>16433024
As I understand a klein bottle is one of the
>higher dimensional ones
since there's not supposed to be a literal hole for the tube to pass back through

But yeah you could make something like that it would be a weird convoluted cup. Should the actual klein bottle function as a cup or not? I can't really visualize what it should be in 4d

You can always make a basin to hold water in it. Topology doesn’t care. A bowl holds water and it’s homeomorphic to a sphere. A cup with a handle is homeomorphic to a torus. What holds water or doesn’t is a subject of differential geometry (ie surface extrema)

> This turns out to be equivalent to the question of whether the surface contains no subset that is homeomorphic to the Möbius strip. Thus, for surfaces, the Möbius strip may be considered the source of all non-orientability.
The Klein bottle is made by connecting the edges of a Mobius strip. Any shape with a Mobius strip inside it is non-orientable.

There was a market for them, but he stored them in a Klein warehouse, and now he can't get to them.

Klein bottle exists also. There are multiple proofs of it on wikipedia.

>>16434568
Yeah but it penetrates itself so it's not nice.

Anonymous No. 16434979

>>16434961
It doesn't penetrate itself. It's a smooth manifold without self intersections.

The Mobius strip is 3D, you can't have the out of plane rotation you'd need to create the required twist in only two dimensions. The true Klein bottle is a 4D shape, since the neck of the bottle doesn't actually intersect with the wall as it "passes through", which is only possible in 4D space. OPs image, as well as the Klein bottles you can buy online, are projections of the 4D shape into 3D space, so technically not a true Klein bottle.

Anonymous No. 16435609

>>16435601
um actually, a 4d klein bottle is just an imbedding of a klein bottle into 4d space, a TRUE klein bottle is a set of equivalence classes of points of a square. only schizos try to imagine this as a geometrical object.

He's right. You can embed a mobius strip in an appropriate non-euclidean 2D space, or a klein bottle in a non-euclidean 3d space. The fact that you can embed something in R^n doesn't mean it's really n-dimensional.

But you don't need wacky tricks like non-euclidean space to have a Mobius strip in 3D space. R^3 is the lowest dimensional space a Mobius strip can exist in its most basic form.

That's like saying you can compress the entire text of a dictionary into a single digital byte, by defining a lookup table such that the character "a" is equal to the entire text of the dictionary.

What does that mean? A mobius strip's only essential properties are topological and don't give a shit about embeddings. There is nothing special about embedding in R^3.
>That's like saying you can compress the entire text of a dictionary into a single digital byte, by defining a lookup table such that the character "a" is equal to the entire text of the dictionary.
No it isn't, that's retarded.

Not the Mobius strip's most basic form, R^3's most basic form. No non Euclidean bullshittery, or wormholes or whatever.

it's elliptic onions btw

is this helping?
