🧵 How does NASA keep getting away with it?

Anonymous No. 16436004

From false color photographs, shilled in the media, to minimized budget estimates, to the continuous "oh we'll actually look for life we know isn't there on the next one while the geologists do their thing this time, but are serious about looking for life we super promise", NASA has the most deceptive marketing strategy of any government agency or similarly sized (budget wise) corporation.

Why are they allowed to get away with it?

NASA is somewhat related to the military regarless of what people say.
Some people working at NASA don’t wish to be associated with the military projects because that imposes certain restrictions onto a person.
Hence why they try convince politicians that this stuff they’re doing it actually super important but not that important.

Also some people just want to make money and be well fed. Can you blame them for it?
It’s not like what they do is totally useless

>It inspires the children to be the next generation of scientists!
And once those magic words are spoken, anything is justified.

There's nothing wrong with false colour photographs when it reveals extra information not normally seen in the visible spectrum. Like in Titan's case, IR can be used to see beneath the thick atmosphere.

The only time it annoys me is when false colour photographs are spread by retards who label them as a visible light photograph. Io is one of the worst offenders. All the images of Io on Google have it in that stupid radioactive pizza colour scheme, when it's much more washed out and natural looking. And of course, we can't forget Neptune.

I live in deep rural America, great night skies, and believe it or not some of the meth head clerks at the local dollar stores are big space nerds. Tweeking all night looking at star maybe? Anyways, they all know about the AI image stacking and how computers just process raw data to make these distant images over many weeks or months of time. I know ALL THE SCIENCE behind it as I dabble is astrophotography and am a science nerd of course. I know it's "sound science" to stack images but normies can't make that leap. They see everything NASA does as fake ang gay and it's hard to blame them.

Normies have given up on space, it's just too computer generated for their tastes and many will never believe what space scientists say. I've meet people in real life who think the moon is fake and all that jazz.

>>16436119
The danger is above, normies get confused, lose trust, check out, no one cares about space, no funding as why would normies pay taxes to take what they see as fake images?

Their not putting any effort in to understand what they are seeing is hardly anyone elses fault though.

It's anti-intellectualism and demoralisation. Not only that but space is now seen as a very autistic hobby, so anyone who has any interest in it is cut out of normie circles A.K.A normies will ignore it.

NASA is now a DEI scheme to transfer tax dollars to black "scientists". Its primary objective isn't to accomplish anything scientific. If they do literally anything and had black people involved then they are meeting the objective.

All nasa has to do is send a postcard. Instead we get a 720p Artemis moon flyby. All this money and they can't even take a decent picture for the public to enjoy.

NASA is an organization that exists to increase diversity and representation in science. Its primary objective isn't to accomplish anything scientific. If they do literally anything and had POC involved then they are meeting the objective, and that's a good thing.

>From false color photographs
Usually not even from NASA.
> to minimized budget estimates,

NASA has been constantly getting budget slashed since 5ever so I don't relaly blame them for budget magic.

> "oh we'll actually look for life we know isn't there on the next one while the geologists do their thing this time, but are serious about looking for life we super promise",

They are looking for life, certainly, they just aren't going to find anything and while I imagine quite a few hope to be the one who does they are all aware of it. It is constantly hyped up by everyone though so it does keep some people interested in the field.

Yes, almost nobody knows what Venus looks like for example even though probes have shown it to be the white marble or an egg to our blue marble, with a basalt surface underneath the white clouds and yellow skies.

But instead you get that brown infrared, gold-brown false color view of the surface underneath.

50% of all people are below average IQ, so its easy for NASA to fool a lot of people.
Furthermore people who have affinities for astronomy invariably rate themselves as genius their IQs, which makes them even more gullible and easy to trick.

I think it’s a morale thing. While sure there’s science and a better understanding of the universe, mostly it keeps people excited while living mundane lives. The fantasy of space makes shitloads of money in the media, and is a great attractor for getting people interested in STEM or art.

I think it generally enriches the lives of people even if we never end up with colonies in space. Thats why I think it’s a thing.
