Anonymous No. 16436801

This is not serious. It's merely a way to tell people that there's something other than just more natural gas in the pipeline. It's greenwashing.

tmi loan guarantee.jpg

Anonymous No. 16441555

privatize the gains, socialize the risks
"A loan guarantee would allow Constellation to shift much of the risk of reopening Three Mile Island to taxpayers. The federal government, in this case, would pledge to cover up to $1.6 billion if there is a default. The guarantees are typically used by developers to lower the cost of project financing, as lenders are willing to offer more favorable terms when there is federal backing."

Eventually there will be project announcements for the westinghouse AP300. This model is the most likely to be widely deployed across the US based on the existing AP1000 supply chain. All of these no-name companies popping up have almost no realistic backing. NuScale has a shot but without any US deals announced while the other no-name companies make public signings, it tells me they are either overwhelmed with prospects or they don't have shit. Not having any US deals in the works doesn't make sense considering their design is currently the only SMR approved by the NRC. So most likely they are overwhelmed and just being quiet about it.

NuScale is a publicly traded company. They would absolutely not be quiet about it if they were "overwhelmed" with customers.

Constellation would still be on the hook for those $1.6 billion. A loan guarantee doesn't mean Constellation can just skip repaying; it means that the lenders would be paid even if Constellation goes bankrupt. A loan guarantee doesn't shift risk from Constellation to taxpayers; it shifts risk from lenders to taxpayers.

Thorium is a meme. No point in pursuing it since we're not in dire need of fissile material and it's more difficult to use than uranium.

It certainly tells us that America's nuclear construction industry is broken when Microsoft would rather pay about the same price per watt that the Chinese pay for a brand new HPR1000 to restart the old Three Mile Island unit 1
