I think teleport from Star Trek can't work. It basically destroys your body and creates a new copy of it at arrival. This means that you die and a new copy of you is created. Teleport can't work with living beings, only works with inanimate objects.
What do you think?

Always thought using this sort of teleporter in sci-fi was retarded. If you're going to do magic future tech BS like warp drives and time travel you could at least invent a better method of teleporting than "we vaporize you"

Teleporter or suicide and you get replaced with a pod person from the quantum foam. It's like that fable of the boat, parts on the boat break and you replace them. But after so many years and so many repairs all the parts of the original boat have been broken, removed, and replaced with a repair...so is it even the same boat since all the wood is different?

I can't recall the exact explanation, if it is actually 'destroying/vaporising' the body, but certainly it is creating an exact recreation of that person so perhaps it's tantamount to that. This explanation appears at some point in TNG, I can't remember if it is stated in TOS.
