Sometimes i hear about whole atoms being called bosons, but i dont understand what that means.
I thought bosons and fermions were just properties of elementary particles

Bosons and fermions are just names to categorize particles. All particles have one of the two following possibilities:
>1: The probability distribution of their momentum is the fourier transform of the probability distribution of their position and you can flip back and forth between the two as many times as you like with fourier transforms.
>2: Each time you do this you also have to add a minus sign.
We call the two groups after the names of their discoverers because it took thirty years to figure out that it was this simple. Between 1930ish and 1960ish there were dozens of different overcomplicated theories.
