He just points out (again) that SpaceX is years behind schedule, their public subsidies have run out (except for an additional $1.1B granted for a few additional moon landings which they’re nowhere near accomplishing). The Starship in general being a flop which hasn’t lifted a SINGLE pound of cargo into LEO let alone get anywhere close to the moon. He’s right of course. However because SpaceX is so MASSIVELY astroturfed when people are looking for the counterpoint it seems like Thunferf00t is the only option and so he’s turned into the designated anti-Starship hater. In reality there are many Starship haters who think the project is doomed to failure but we don’t have YouTube channels specializing in attacking tech / science scams.
As we’ve said many times Starship in its current(?) vision of being a reusable ultra-efficient heavy lift vehicle that can fly men to Mars is a complete failure. At BEST it’ll be partially reusable heavy lift vehicle which may be able to reach the Moon, and/or it’ll turn into Shuttle 2.0.

He’ll get funding regardless because the military and NASA want to have multiple American space providers. The SLS is so far ahead that Starship will never catch up but the government will keep throwing a billion here and there to keep Starship alive if it shows any kind of promise of working one day.

You've just proved you can't use the rule you derived; the logical fallacies here is affirming the consequent and also, ad hominem: a nested, combinatory fallacy. No one who is logical makes arguments like this. No one who makes arguments like this is capable of knowing what is and isn't a fact. You're as dumb as the day is long, my friend.
This thing called "Logic" is the simple difference between us and (You). We belong on this board; you don't, and never will because you aren't addicted to learning and knowledge, you're a blowhard and a moron, and you have no life except for memes and 4chan, your body of experience is empty, your reasoning is unsound, you aren't capable of having cogent insights... in short, you are solid /b/ material.

take the weight and strain off the landing legs, gives you more payload and theoractically you can beef up the tower a lot cheaper and easier with more shock absorbers than the legs of a ship
Anonymous at Sun, 20 Oct 2024 19:46:18 UTC No. 16441584
>>16441550
No need for legs on the booster, which reduces the amount of overhead mass. It's much less expensive to have a pair of "chopsticks" on a tower than pair of legs on every booster that must have extra fuel included to lift their weight into the sky.
More importantly, increases the gap between the bottom of the rocket and ground, reducing the amount of engine blast that ends up reflected back into the rocket. This reduces wear on the booster and lessens the risk of high impact damage that must be repaired before the booster can be used again.

Adding to what the other anons said second stage reuse is a HUGE performance hit, a fully expended Starship would more than double its payload to LEO.
Minmaxxing like this is what will allow Starship to have its 100+ ton payload to LEO while fully reused.

The strangest thing for me is why liberals are so desperate for SpaceX to fail. You'd think a science worshipping liberal would be onions-facing at stuff like this except they're seething instead because Elon is a bad man they've been conditioned to hate. Leftists hating it I get, they want that money to go to social programs for minorities and free drugs for homeless people.

>they can land the booster rockets so why catch them?
Superheavy rocket plume is too large and strong. Reflecting from landing surface it threatens to topple rocket, burn through it's construction orteven burn through landing pand itself. It works with smaller booster because they have much smaller engine.
Catching rocket midair where reflected plume doesn't reach back to booster eliminates that problem.

So it's ready to go back on the launch mount immediately, and avoids the weight of landing gear. The booster is really an extension of the tower so it's only fitting that it is caught by the tower.

it also had a significant portion of GDP for a budget and large sections of many aerospace companies and the military building it's equipment. The Saturn V was never required to land itself so of course there are more developmental steps, and spacex is pursuing a different kind of development program anyway.
