Slowly and with patience for yourself. I know it's memed on a lot, but in the beginning resources like khan academy (or even brilliant despite their annoying advertising) can help quite a lot in getting you from nothing up until basic calculus.

Once you're at the beginnings of calculus you're in undergraduate university territory and those online resources become less useful.

This is the future of maths. Take a good hard look.

is it enough just to go through the lessons?

Not that anon, but on the contrary: try every problem/question on Khan Academy first and skip the lessons unless you get stuck

Start with discrete mathematics, it'll introduce the techniques of proofs. Then work your way through analysis books, since they construct the universe of numbers through proofs. Then you can feel free to venture into anything you'd like.

Check your local college for 50 level mathematics classes. They start with the basics for people like yourself. I've ran into students in higher level math classes that had started at these basic level classes and were doing just fine

Yes, algebra isn't a prerequisite. As long as you know what numbers are you should be fine.

Personally, I'm in the middle of working on a PhD in EE at a fairly competitive university with a "minor" (my school requires all students in my program to do a minimum of 3 graduate level courses in another STEM discipline) in math and when I went back to community college I started in high school algebra.

As long as you are not planning to discover new math just remembering stuff is not as difficult as it's just tedious. Just take your time and go slow, you will eventually be good with math
