๐งต Is it a good idea to major in Math and minor in Computer science?

Mathematics course I'm taking has a reputation for being difficult. Only one person out of the initial 20 graduated last year. A lot of people switch their majors (most to comp-sci but considering that it also requires a lot of math I fail to see the point) and even universities.

Don't do it. Unless you have rich parents. It is HARD. If you dont have a passion for it and motivated by money.
Don't waste your time.
Mathematical rigor is not something you can half ass.

I am in a similar turmoil. Dunno if should go physics or engineering (electrical or aerospace).
Academia just seems to be in such a pretentious, shitty state right now, while engineering sounds too boring, even if it is a more secure way to earning sufficient living.
I am from Spain though, so I am prolly fucked either way.

Study what interests you. If that's money, then study what interests you and then work in pharma or medical diagnostics. Both of those need hires from just about every field.

Math is easier and more interesting than codemonkeying so probably do that. You can get good at coding in your free time with personal projects anyways

it's not easier. but because it is more interesting, you might find it easier.
personally I fucking sucked dick at mathematical statistics and general topology. but I can code perfectly fine on different languages

That's engineer math, not math math.

It's fine but make sure to do some stats or machine learning or something. If you come to need a job (not some high flying ivy leave quant Jane street shit but a regular honest to god all American light beer pickup truck JOB) then you need some skills to leverage that aren't doing epsilon delta proofs cause nobody gives a shit about that.

Do physics.
Trust me do physics.
Physics + computer science is godlike, this is what I did and I worked EE/ME internships as well as CS jobs. Currently mixing both at a robotics startup. I understand the math, the physics, can solve any problem with minimal mixture of theoretical knowledge of physics, learning on the job, and computer skills.
If there is one chad major/minor combination, its definitely physics/maths.

Is it a good idea? No, it'll be super difficult to get a job.
Should you do it? Absolutely, follow your dreams and don't be a codemonkey.

Seconding this. Physics + math is a god-tier combination.

This. I majored in math and did a master's in math as well. I'm now doing a Ph.D in math. The only reason I did though is because I really don't need to ever work and have a nice inheritance package coming my way.
