what youre thinking of is outside the realm of pure chemistry, but the whole reason it sparked interest is that it was found to be elevated in schizophrenics. they tested it and found it to be not hallucinogenic or psychotomimetic. if it has more subtle, maybe long term effects, or what the link with schizophrenia actually is, is not known, the elevated levels may be caused by their condition rather than causing it. maybe its actually worth looking into what the correlation is, but thats why the hype is gone.

Yes you can buy cruelty-free adrenochrome for something like $10 a gram, and no there is no known physiological effect when using it. But that's not relevant. Adrenochrome, aka Adrenalchrome, is the precursor signalling chemical to natural adrenaline. It is not produced, located, or found in the adrenal glands. It is produced and found in the brain, appearing when the brain senses a near-death state. Thus a clean kill does not produce much of it. The modern occult production and use of adrenalchrome is probably most similar to certain classic alchemy procedures. The favored modern method of production for these procedures is known to be execution by physical destruction of the brain, of a living human, with simultaneous extraction of the substance. Among all well-documented stories of classic alchemy successes, one thing in common is suspicious disappearances. Wives, lovers, "plague victims", etc. Every instance of someone producing the legendary rubedo has an out-standing suspicion of criminal activity including murder.
