Why do academic institutions gatekeep science behind expensive as fuck subscriptions, leaving out the Global South which can't afford the literature? If the prices were adjusted by location, we would have had many times as much research happening. See pic related, the Nature index

Obviously we can imply the American government who funds scientific research to the tune of 100s of billions of dollars per year is Obviously getting scammed.
Most papers are worthless and just money grabs. I've seen some publications cost thousands view however I'm skeptical whether it's even worth it.
