🧵 speed of light

Anonymous No. 16450370

Wait so if I was traveling at 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% the speed of light and I shined a laser in front of me, it would still be traveling at 299 792 458 m / s?

Why wouldn't it traveling at a snails pace from my perspective?
I mean I did all of that work to almost match it's speed.

What the fuck universe are we living in?

It’s because this graph is exponential, when you get that close to the speed of light a small change in speed dramatically increases the time dilation.

But I was almost at the speed of light.
The universe actually makes me physically slower so I can never catch up to light? wtf

by the way, if all frames of reference are valid, how come we don't see galaxies travelling at that speed all the time? we always see galaxies travelling around the same speed as us. also, wouldn't a galaxy travelling at that speed reach the thermal death of the universe sooner than us? then that means our frame of reference is more valid than that of the galaxy, right?

It doesn’t make you slower, it just makes everything else go faster relative to you. Special relativity doesn’t explain why this is because it is itself derived from the assumption that the speed if light is the same from all reference frames
>>16450385
> galaxies travelling at that speed all the time?
What speed?
> we always see galaxies travelling around the same speed as us
What are you talking about? As far as I know, different galaxies have the different observed velocities
> that speed reach the thermal death of the universe sooner than us?
You mean traveling at a faster speed? Maybe from the perspective of someone in a galaxy that is going faster, his clock would measure that it happens sooner
> then that means our frame of reference is more valid than that of the galaxy, right?
Our clocks have different measurements, I assume scientist’s prediction for when the heat death occurs are based on our clocks, but that doesn’t mean the clock of a guy going faster is less “valid”

Someone said the universe isn't made for us to like it.

>Why wouldn't it traveling at a snails pace from my perspective?
Because your mind processes would be slowed the fuck up not being able to move as much relatively to the speed of your overall body, but then that is not that shit-theory is about, and honestly you should ignore everything jews contributed to science for your own good.

It would work normally from your perspective.
>Why wouldn't it traveling at a snails pace from my perspective?
Time runs more slowly the faster you are moving.

This is a core aspect of special relativity. All observers must agree on the speed of light, no matter their frame. So time adjusts such that all observers see light moving at the same speed.

It would only being going .00000..001 faster than you.

Imagine driving a car 99.9 mph, and you reach out your window and drop a car that is traveling 100 mph, if from that point you stay constant, it would speed ahead of you but then remain at a steady distance from you? Or no this is compounding stuff:

Travel 5 miles total:
Car 1: 99.9 mph
Car 2: 100 mph

Mile 1:
Mile 1:
Mile 2:
Mile 2:
Mile 3:
Mile 3:
Mile 4:

Holy fuck what is this sorcery?
Is this actually the universe I live in? wtf

it's basically exponential poindexter

Yes. But someone observing you going at 0m/s would see the light travelling only very slightly faster than you. But they would see the light as having a different frequency.

You don't experience time dilation subjectively thoughbeit. From your perspective, the rest of the universe "slows down", and contracts. You would still feel yourself to be moving through time normally. It's all relative.

It's not in any way exponential. I know that normies use the word "exponential" to mean "gettin big", but this is physics.

Car 1 takes about 3.003 minutes, and Car 2 takes exactly 3 minutes to travel 5 miles.

You're already traveling at 99.9999999% the speed of light from the perspective of some random alien whose galaxy is flying by in the opposite direction. It wouldn't be fair if light just randomly moved like syrup whenever it moved North just to satisfy your scenario for him. Nor would the same be fair for him, to satisfy the scenario for you.
We live in a universe which is fair for everyone. We all get to see light shine away from us at the same speed because we're all at the center of our own spacetime.
