Should everything that exists be classified as matter, since they exist? Thereâs something there? How is that not matter? How is a photon not matter? It exists. I donât care if it doesnât have mass. Light *matters*.
Anonymous at Mon, 28 Oct 2024 17:44:06 UTC No. 16453784
Yes. Anti-materialists are morons. Literal fucking morons.
- âNo! God isnât material! He is outside the existence weâre in! Beyond physics!â
- âHow is that extra existence not existent though? You just assumed it exists. How is that not material? How is meta-physics not more exotic, transcendent physics?â
>light matters
Kek. This is how I will look at matter from now on. Shit happens, shit matters.

But that is the very definition of matter, anything with mass.

Are photons matter or not? Does light matter? Iâd say yes, light does matter, as itâs how we see the world around us. The eye is perhaps our most treasured sense.

So light doesnât matter. Got it. Itâs not there. There is nothing to it. No material.

There are massless particles, like gluons, and they certainly exist. They matter.
Matter in the sense of mass is finite, but matter in the sense of existential material, just has to exist. Even space exists. Itâs a âfabricâ weâre embedded in.

It may be semantics, but itâs important to point out that scientists struggle agreeing on words. âWhat? No. Evolution is totally different from adaptabilityâ âHow?â âIt just is, okayâ âBut even the universe evolvesâ âShut upâ âHow is entropy not just a bitch of causality?â âSTOP ITâ

"matter" does not mean "something that matters"
In physics, it typically means "something with mass", but actually that doesn't really matter. Physicists don't sit around thinking about why they call massive things matter and nonmassive things something else, because it's a pointless and useless question.
>>16453817
The difference is that this "matter" distinction is a trivial one. It doesn't matter.

Cope.
If it's realâif it's there, if it existsâthen it matters.
It's real. It's a thing, and there is something there to it.
It doesn't matter if photons don't have mass, it matters because they (the photons) are there. They're real.
That's matter.
Fuck anyone who says it isn't.
Fuck anyone who claims space isn't real because it's "nothing there".
At best you have nuanced absences, like the cold, the dark, holes, etc.

I must ask the smartest physics student on the board this question:
When the smallest single unit of light is emitted from a single source, describe the form of that light as it travels away from the source?

Well they say it's up down makes left right makes up down makes left right makes up down makes left right
Or up makes left makes down makes right makes up makes left makes down makes right makes up makes left makes down makes right.
So it's kind of like a wobbly cylinder that grows in length, though maybe it's just a wobbly short nub plug of a cylinder and it's behind is always being collapsed upon which keeps pushing it forward.

the laws of nature objectively exist and are not matter
if you deny natural laws then you reduce science to a purely recreational activity, expedient for practicality or some other social construct

People already postulate that existence could be just some kickstarted larger than life simulation. By that point, science is a form of art. Actually, it already isâsince you cannot technically separate art from science.

Who is the ultimate authority of the defining of definitions, and how is it determined how absolutely meaningful and impacftul some distinctions are?
Light cannot be halted. A rock can be halted.
A water wave can be halted if frozen.
But then aspects of its wave quality are lost.
Perhaps light can be halted, as magnetic field. But then aspects of lights wave quality is lost.
