Can any of you guys explain what I cooked here in chem? I attempted to produce potassium copper acetate. It appeared like it's going great until I carefully evaporated it down and then it formed picrel. Those are not crystals, you can scoop that shit up like goo.

pretty common in chemistry, it still has water but any stronger heating would decompose it. You need to dry it with a vacuum or add some ultra pure ethanol to it, it will likely bind to some water but not to the salts.
And you have to do this in an atmosphere with no moisture or it will catch water again, so in some closed vessel

and I thought I fucked up and it decomposed. Thanks anon, now I know what to do.

I made it up, i dont know shit about that compound. Its just a common thing for many salts to be mushy because they are hygroscopic and heating them decomposes them.I thought it was like that

it's certain because the potassium acetate is hygroscopic as fuck. I underestimated how hygroscopic it is

I can do physics and math no problem but chemistry is always like black magic to me. You guys are pretty much wizards to me.

it's tedious and boring. another workup. wait on rotovap. prep column.
i was sold a lie.

You're doing it wrong. Chinese alchemists drank mercury.

why wasn't this the first post?
In fact, why didn't OP tell us what it tasted like in the the OP? /sci/ is some bitch shit now a days

Seriously. I bet this pussy didn't even take a big whiff.
>was doing some lab work this week about sonication extraction of amygdalin
>had bag of kosher(tm) bitter apricot kernels for extraction
>they were fucking DELICIOUS
>the extract containing 0.1% citric acid smelled like a damn pineapple smoothie
Would have tasted the extracts but I'm not gonna drink methanol, huffed enough of it this week (some good shit btw).
Maybe i can sneak a dab off the top & let the methanol dry and lick my finger.

Anecdotal evidence confirms kids taste test copper salts during chem in HS and I am too old for that now (missed my chance). But from what I've read I can assure you it's an absolute disgusting metallic taste that will linger on your taste buds for a long while and if you dare swallow it you'll be puking yourself inside out.

this reminds me of a chem teacher that told me she had the most fun and variety during her studies, probably the reason she became a teacher afterwards so she can prevent monotone wet work

This is because
1. Chemistry is a completely solved field.
2. Chemical engineering is the only interesting field which involves chemistry because you work with pipes and shit.

that's because it is
do not for one second think of chemistry as a science, it is still the noble art of the alchemists of old.
The tools and methods might have evolved, but it remains unexplainable.

lol
lmao
hahahahahahahaha
Chemistry might not have a grand frontier, but that doesn't mean we have even scratched the surface of what chemistry is about. It's an abyss of nonsensical complexity that resists elucidation by traditional means.
>Chemical engineering is the only interesting field which involves chemistry because you work with pipes and shit.
Chemical engineering, contrary to what the name suggests does not involve any chemistry.
The actual chemistry is treated as a black box in chemical engineering.

once sniffed on a pure sample of ฮฑ-methyl cinnamaldehyde and it gave me a buzz for a few seconds, not gonna do that again lmao
