If other people are non-player characters and I am the player character, who is the player, and what is the hardware on which the game is running? Why is there a player and why is there a game and non-player characters?

Even if I tried to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand. This simulation has simpler laws of physics than the real world for ease of computation, so there's no analogue to real world computers.
