🗑️ 🧵 I'm tired of being an ignorant atheist
Anonymous at Thu, 7 Nov 2024 06:03:26 UTC No. 16465769
I recently had a conversation with a Christian, and although I have some superficial reasons to be against believing in God, I realized I didn’t know enough to properly defend my views. I’m looking for YouTube videos or documents that compile a lot of reasons why the Christian religion falls apart —such as contradictions in the Bible, the true origins of many stories, and the similarities between different religions. Ideally, I’d prefer a video that last more than one hour, but anything is helpful. Also, I’m not sure if this thread belongs here, so apologies if it doesn't. Thanks in advance.

1. Dead guy can't become alive
2. Snakes can't talk
3. Virgins can't give birth
4. The earth is not ~10k years old
That should be a good start

There are no 'legit arguments' you dumb dumb. Christianity is a conjunction of multiple claims about reality. If even one of them is false, the whole thing is false.

If you are tired of being atheist, why pick a religion with only one god instead of theism maxing? Baby steps? Why larp as just one demigod yourself when you could simultaneously be hundreds of demigods or pick whatever demigod you want to be based on the situation at hand?

God is what people play. There was a god involved in our simulation.

I mean, what I'm looking for seems like pretty legitimate arguments, at least to me. I'm not asking for proof that God doesn't exist; it's more about what I mentioned—contradictions in the Bible, such as when it says that God is pure kindness but also condones slavery in some passages, or the similarities between religions (like Zoroastrianism or Atenism), or the multiple modifications to the Bible over the years

I may have expressed myself poorly, I apologize if that's the case since English is not my native language. I'm fairly sure I'm an atheist and don't plan to stop being one unless something very unlikely happens. It's just that I'd like to have more solid arguments to defend my point of view in a better way, and I'm simply talking about Christianity because it's the most popular religion where I live (and in the world in general) :)

I meant they were no legit arguments for christianity (misread your post). Anyway, you have no reason regard the blatant scientific inaccuracies as superficial

Ah, so that is why you can't form a coherent argument, makes sense, thanks for being brave enough to share your lived truth.

If you truly want to be smart, read the bible.
In doing so, you will be able to come to your own conclusions about the matter.
Your list of reasons is surface level. It's obvious to anyone with half a brain that the shit in the bible is factually wrong. And if the person you're arguing with geniunely believes them to be true, then you're wasting your time because they're too stupid to care about.
But you will have a much harder time arguing with the people who acknowledge the fakeness of the bible, and yet still argue for Christianity, because those people are engaging with theology and ideas of social customs and culture, where atheism is very weak.

Further, you should read Plato and Aristotle as well as get yourself an understanding of ancient Roman religious practices.
You see, as heretical as it sounds, Christanity truly is more than just the bible. If the bible didn't exist, you would still have Christianity.
Those other elements all come from the Greeks and Romans. The specific rituals you see in the church are Roman, and the theological beliefs are all Greek.
People like Thomas Aquinas were so important to the church that they became canonised for it. If you want to argue with a proper Christian, you must read these peoples works.

>then you're wasting your time because they're too stupid to care about.
Wrong. You should point out the stupidity of their beliefs and ridicule it in public. For someone who seems to care a lot about "ideas of social customs and culture", you seem not to understand the value of shaming.
