He was a collaborator for nice papers when he was earning his master's and PhD. Astrophysics is tough, you get your first impactful individual publications much later on than if you went into math or something like that.
Overall he had a decent career start. My best friend is going into astrophysics and, for us, mathematicians/computer scientists/whoever else is reading, it might seem like every astrophysicist sucks. But the field is just different.
However, he basically gave up on his career as an astrophysicist to be a planetarium director. So he has collaborated with nearly no new knowledge to astrophysics, he's just a really good planetarium director and science communicator.
Overall I wouldn't call him an astrophysicist. He's not earned this title, despite his PhD. He has no career in the field.
