Many of things that you will do in school is more of a test to see how good you are at following directions. That's not to say that free-thinking isn't advocated, you need free-thinking to a degree in order to be innovative, but teaching everyone to question every single aspect of society and government is counter-productive in the grand scheme. Take a group of people that are in high in conformity, and you'll find propaganda across a wide spectrum of beliefs rooted in these individuals. And its not necessarily about being close-minded, it has more to do with securing survival and resources.
