How do I know a book is scientifically sound and not garbage before reading it? I'm looking for books on the brain and like half of them are obviously pseudoscience which means there's some of these hiding among the ones that look like actual books.

Get used books or try to download scientific articles. There's ways to get free articles because the pdfs are available, you can email authors, being enrolled at any college gives you log ins to publishers, or bite the bullet and play for it.

You're just gonna have to corroborate what you learn with other sources to reach a consensus (much like with political news). With time you'll develop the instinct for sniffing out smart, honest writers

1. make list of books you think are shit and why
2. search for reviewers who shit on those books for same reasons you do
3. see which books those reviewers give good reviews to.
