I don't think you understand what he's saying. You probably do need to be a genius if you want to be a world renowned mathematician that future generations of historians/biographers will write books about. If you want to just make a career where mathematics is your discipline and you make modest contributions (as most mathematicians do) you don't need to be a genius.
You're just setting yourself up for failure by declaring everything except the literal peak of human achievement as not being good enough.
