🧵 How do we counteract Science worship?
Anonymous at Sat, 18 Jan 2025 17:03:25 UTC No. 16555259
A lot of people think deboonking flat eathers and creationsits (the rhetorical equivalent of playing basketball against mentally handicapped kindergarteners) magically makes them qualified enough to speak on behalf of The Science™ itself. Claiming anyone critical of the scientific community is in themselves "science deniers". How do we stop their slimy spread and make the discipline slightly less faggoty?

I dont know if this fits but whenever I hear somebody spouting some "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" bullshit I'll usually ask them what an abstract is and that shits down the conversation. These idiots have never read a paper in their lives.

If you can post a paper where that happens I would love to see it, otherwise you are in fact reading a blog and then whining that the blog you read was a blog instead of a paper which really is a "you" problem

It's funny when you see an atheist say something genuinely unfounded and pathos based and then you actually pull something up with scientific basis and they literally just ignore it or deny it's existence. Like I showed one a journal about the shroudn from 2019 and they deboonked it with the original flawed 1989 article which mistook a burnt restoration sample as the main fabric.

Do people actually think flat earthers are that much of a threat to science they need to be constantly deboonked?

Dude has a successful educational series he does flat earthers aren't even that big of a thing anymore why does he continue to do them?

I understand that you can do science in a basement, but I understand the stance of ignoring basement scientists as they often get basic things wrong.

It's often amazing to me just how bad the "people on the right side of history" are even at tasks like the one you mention.
Their idea of debunking flat-earth is to show a picture or cite a paper or something naive and mindless like that.

Doesn't seem to support your point. These people aren't dunking on flat earthers nor are they claiming to "speak on behalf of The Science™" Did you post the wrong links by accident or did I trigger a spam bot or something?

not either one of these but flat earthers are claiming scientific evidence for their position, while creationists claim forms of philosophical uniformitarianism. Something that is not a scientific view.
So to say that you can debunk creationists using science is like saying you can debunk george lucas by appealing to wookies. It makes no reasonable sense. You have to meet them on logical, philosophical, theological grounds.

what are you yapping about?
you must be hearing things because i dont think ive ever heard a creationist say they believe creationism on the basis of scientific evidence. They usually believe some sort of non-universalism that is compatible with their studies.
