🧵 Colossal De-Extinction
Anonymous at Tue, 18 Feb 2025 23:02:59 UTC No. 16590832
Is this company legit or are they some kind of run-of-the-mill LARP/scam/hoax/art project. They claim they are making strides in bringing back the dodo and mammoth, but literally anyone can whip up an infographic make a website and talk buzzwords

>bringing back the dodo and mammoth
I hope so because I wanna eat that.
I want to eat mammoths and dodos so badly.
It's so unfair that we don't get any of them.

>Is this company legit or are they some kind of run-of-the-mill LARP/scam/hoax/art project.
Tech-scam.
-They don't have any land, or any kind of facility or resources, to take house any of these animals or even take care of them.
-Bird cloning, as silly as this might sound, is technology that hasn't been invented yet. If they clone a bird it'll be the first time *anyone* has ever cloned a bird, so press [x] to fucking doubt.
-Third thing I can't remember.
Think back to Jurassic Park, what was the first thing John Hammond did when he was serious? He bought several deserted/uninhabited islands off the coast central America so he could have pastureland for his dinosaurs. Colossal Biosciences says they're going to clone a wooly mammoth by 2028, that's in 3 years. I seriously doubt that.
I'm all for cloning extinct animals: I love the idea, I love the project pitch, but these guys seem to explicitly be a biotechnology company that exists only on paper making huge promises to the ignorant public so they can reap in massive investment from military, government, celebrities, etc.. People who basically don't know shit about science falling for snappy infographs and a clean power-point presentation. Then when nothing plans out, because they're headquartered in America, they can just claim bankruptcy and quietly fuck off with their money.

>waste money on land to house stuff you don't even have the ability to create yet
Are you retarded? As soon as they manage to do anything of significance, money will come pouring in and then they'll be able to buy some land.

that's what they want the VC's to think anon...
these guys show up to our local uni's career fairs, but the depth of their research is kept pretty close, even meeting them in person they don't have an articulated plan past genomics RN.

What have they actually shown you? Words and illustrations.
The proof is in the pudding, you credulous retard.

That's not why he bought those islands. You need to read the book again. He bought those islands to evade government regulators.

Why are you retards so easily impressed by claims made without proof?
>>I'm going to clone a whale. My proof is this picture of me standing next to your mother.

I trust anything outside the realm of publish-or-perish academic science. It’s where creativity goes to die.

At best a thinktank. They seem to be funded by venture capitalists and celebrities so at least they aren’t begging laymen for donations. Led by some Harvard geneticist guy.
