What do you think are some of the more controversial theories others have developed?

Maybe Penrose’s theories on consciousness? (Along with that fringe neuroscientist he collaborated with, Hameroff or something but Hameroff is a wacko now.)

I still think Penrose theory on how human consciousness shows non-algorithmic properties is still the greatest piece of evidence for arguing that AI is not consciousness. AI can maybe recap a summary of Gödel’s theorem but I think it is still fundamentally incapable of the “spark” needed to discover something new along the lines of Gödel’s theorem. and that theorem alone tells you a lot about the limits of algorithmic systems and why we shouldn’t put so little stock in humans (and their consciousness)
