How the fuck do timezones work? Some of this shit makes no sense at all. Why is UK UTC but Spain is +1. China takes up three timezones yet is just assigned +8 and so forth.

Each country chooses their timezones

Everyone picks which ever they want. Some of them choose based on other things than just the absolute position of the sun. Most of Europe comes in the same zone even though some of them would be better off in others just to have easier cooperation. Same with west Africa or South America. China likes to keep in Beijing time for unity and though it looks silly and is a bit silly too it's less of a problem than it may seem since most of them live on the coast. Some of them may go based on administrative zones or internal divisions etc like Russia, Australia, USA and Canada. It's the same reason why the date line is all fucked up, the islands want to stay on the same date as USA and Australia in particular and choose based on that.

Basically see any time cops around? No? then you can be anything. Even half past 3 like Iran

8 billion personal timezones is the world I want. We have the technology.
Why not do it?

Could a country technically pick to be +5 when they are surrounded by -5 nations?

If that's how they want to set their domestic clocks, then yes.

China is pretty much that in its west since the whole country uses one timezone.

The most frequently updated file on your computer is the freaking timezone rules.

Yes. Afghanistan is on a different time zone from Pakistan because they hate each other and Arizona doesn't use DST because fuck you that's why.

I used to manage the Time zone data base for in flight navigation systems for a major aerospace electronics manufacture . It was a monthly update.

Every single month.
>flight navigation systems
Nothing critical.

Wait until burgers go full retard and make daylight savings time permanent instead of the logical standard time and fuck things up further (they tried this once before in the 70s and everyone hated it but they can't learn from mistakes)

Is a little outdated too since depending on your parallel, North or the reverse South, you get more hours of day during summer and less during winter, in opposite order.
Countries end up regulating that by themselves, or sometimes on a individual level.
There's no real model for people to follow like a upgraded timezone model.

I know, right? Those bastards just had to align with Australia for better trade schedules.
Those little shits fucked up the international date line worse than it already is!
At least they're not like the Line Islands with their UTC+14, the greedy cunts.

The absolute inflated sense of importance some people can have of themselves.

I thought the appeal of the island lifestyle was that it was unencumbered by the fast pace of the rest of the world. Why do they need time coordinated with anything other than local solar noon?

Some people simply want to force the rest of society to conform to their wish to have more sunlight after work without needing to do something proactive like ask their manager to adjust their hours so they can come in an hour early and leave an hour early. School teachers are especially bad about this as schools in the US tend to have the same start and end times regardless of time of year. I found schools in parts of Latin America are much more flexible, which is funny considering how much of it is closer to the equator.
The people I really hate are the ones who truly believe it creates an extra hour of daylight instead of shifting the numbers on the clock relative to sunlight periods. I used to think no one is that stupid but when you try to talk in depth on the subject with some people, you discover that many of them actually do believe it alters the amount of sunlight over the entire day instead of shifting it relative to the time on the clock.
Where I live should be in the next time zone but because of bordering states, we are at the western side of the wrong time zone. During the summer, we are over two hours out of sync with solar noon.

It's Daylight Savings. It creates daylight based on the interest rate and amount of daylight you saved during the day.
Just like banks.
Always has been.

It's worrying how inflation will cause more than 24 hours of daylight as that will accelerate global warming. Outlaw Daylight Saving Time before the sea levels rise above the summit of Everest.

Twenty-six hours ahead. We are lost.

it actually sounds dumb.
Adopting UTC globally by abolishing the local times and discarding the preconception that the morning begins at 6AM is much better.
My location of UTC+9 would work such that people get up at 16:00(former 7:00) and go to bed at 32:00 (former 23:00).

because you are looking at a 2d map where everything is out of scale and with borders.
