How does the balding know where to stop? Why doesn't the baldness keep going until it connects to your back?

It wants to embarass, it knows that full balding wouldnt be as much embarassing, therefore the balding looks like birds nest pattern. Maybe the balding is caused by birds, so they have free nests when the balded dies ? But most humans counter this by burying/burning their deaths.
