it has to do with the cost of research and development.
recklessly doing gene therapy on yourself is actually really cheap. it's done all the time on mice around the world. so just pretend to be a research lab and get CRISPR injections for your mice/self.

also all some of these gene therapies have to do is produce 1 protein, i don't think you need to research much to make 1 already known protein
