Evolution is the change in the distribution of heritable characteristics within a population over time. Setting aside some non-existent theoretical trait that somehow preserves the balance between all heritable characteristics across multiple generations or conversely some non-existent theoretical trait that somehow causes the entire population to no longer reproduce all at once, all traits are, in fact, equally beneficial to evolution insofar as they are either passed on or they aren't and in doing so the species evolves.
