How accurate is this book? For someone who doesn't know much about particle physics or astronomy this sounds as fantastic as origin myths in religion. How are scientists able to predict what happened seconds after the big bang when they can't even predict if it'll rain tomorrow....

Cosmology (and particle physics) starts out empirical, than starts to edge into highly creative mathematics, then outright speculation and finally memes.
Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Inflation are all memes...they exist entirely as memetic placeholders. They're the scientific equivalent of the Epstein flight logs or Frazzledrip. Researchers are like conspiracy addicts who have incidents like MKULTRA or COINTELPRO (red shift and the CMB) to work with on a solid basis but then artfully embellish that scanty data.
