What do the fighters of /xs/ think of the "one hand for grabbing and one hand for striking" stance? Basically you have your right hand back covering your face in a open grip ready to strike but you have your left hand in front of you to grab.

As long as you do something with that hand when you do grab. You wouldn't just want to hold their shirt and do nothing else, because then you're just keeping yourself in place for them to strike with both hands.

If you use your forwar hand to secure a sleeve grip and apply kuzushi then atleast you're attacking their balance and preventing one arm striking.

>open grip ready to strike
What does this mean? The short answer is that if your reactions are slow enough that you need to have your hands in a predetermined unrelaxed position, you aren't ready for a fight.
It (should) take 1/10 of a second to ball your hand into a fist
It takes 1/15 of a second to open and close that fist

I think you've miss understood his point. He's asking about using a forward hand to grapple.

If I had one hour to prepare someone for a street fight I would teach them to fight like a hockey player (I assume that’s what you’re talking about). There’s not enough time to teach them to grapple or unfuck their jab so might as well focus on how to throw a good straight right and use the off hand for control and distance management.
