What do you think about fighting in close range but not clinching?

Hooks and uppercuts, all day long. Sometimes push with your shoulder.
I had a kickboxing teacher who did this so well he could win against thaiboxing people who like to clinch.

my instructor 'punched' me in the face with his shoulder. He was demonstrating step by step how to generate power from feet, legs, hips, torso, and to strike with what was optimal including shoulder, then elbow then hand. Real eye opener for me, well more like an eye closer really.

In my opinion, that is one of, if not the, most difficult type of fighting to defend against. It is extremely effective, though it takes a lot of skill to pull off.
