๐Ÿงต Mastering your kicks

Anonymous No. 135336

Itt we talk about kicks and defence against kicks.

Do you think sidekick with ball of your foot is a good idea? I've been told to use my heel but if push kick with the ball of foot works, then sidekick with ball of the foot should work as well.

The mechanics are different. I'd just go try it on a bag, it really doesn't seem to work.

If you really want to master your kicks, there's really no better way than training at a good TKD school.

I've never seen a side kick with the ball of the foot, but I have seen a variation of the push kick where the foot is more "45 degrees" rather than straight on.

Different uses for everything, the ball of the foot will add a bit of distance but the heel will add strength by virtue of not flexing.

What do you think about chusoku mawashi geri, especially to the knee (I'm a southpaw, if it matters). Also, do you think kicking people's knees during sparring is evil?

yeah it's super fucked up to kick people's knees while sparring, don't do that

tks
That looks like mae geri front kick than mawashi. The ball of foot is ideal for front kick to body yes.
Just place your leg above their knee near the hip, that stops their momemtum just fine

well if you're anything like the woman in the pic, your kicks won't do shit unless they're TO the balls.yy4mm

This, also training something like muay thai or karate (kyokushin or goju ryu are the only options), will also teach you how to generate power behind those kicks.
also kicks work as long as you can make them work, i d suggest you just reaserch if sme other style uses that kick

The only place you'd really use the ball of your foot in that posture, is laying on your side on the ground. And mechanically, would be more similar to a teep or push than a true kick. It would bare only scant resemblance to a side kick.

In muay thai they do this thing called a side teep that is pretty much what you describe.

do yall bother checking leg kicks? my instinct is just to fade backwards out of range or just plant my weight on the leg and kind of turn into the kick. Idk checking just doesnt make sense to me except in the context of muay thai rules where you get scored based on stuff like that

I also saw a roundhouse kick to the liver using the ball of the foot instead of the shin
I saw it in a fighting manga lol but i tried it on a heavy bag and it can definitely work if you pull your toes back

Checking will decrease the damage done to you as well make the other guy hurt especially if you use the knee and not your shin

>>137086
I was told that you don't have to always use your shin when throwing kicks. To the legs yes, but sometimes it's better to use the ball, instep, or heel to the body or head to minimize the risk of damage to you

What if I did the opposite and started to do push kicks with my heel? I've kicked a wall with my heel and it seemed stronger or at leat louder than with ball of my foot and didn't hurt my foot at all.

you surely mean a hook kick? How the fuck are going to kick with a roundhouse with the ball of your foot?

The heel of the foot and the "ball" right behind your big toe isn't the same thing
>>137086
I was never good enough to estimate distance mid kick, but I've seen some fights where someone gets past a check by using the ball of his foot rather than the shin.

I used to do taekwondo and we drilled it all the time
