>sub only
BJJ guys always win in sub only since their entire sport is minmaxxed for submissions. You don't ever see BJJ guys winning in judo or sambo or wrestling.

What's the fucking point of not being sub only?
Oh, in a "real" fight, you could throw punches from there? Why not go fight MMA?
In a wrestling match, only proper end (ignoring time), is when someone wins. And wins in grappling come from stopping the other dude fighting by submitting them.
Doesn't matter if you spend four minutes on top of them, if they then choke you out.

Sambo and traditional jiujitsu were military martial arts. Pinning makes sense in that context since the "win condition" is you holding them down so you or your fellow soldiers can shank them with a bayonet.

Sambo players historically do better in MMA than BJJ. If you can pin somebody, you can punch them unimpeded.

You're missing the point.
If you're in a wrestling match where the rules say "no striking", why should you be beholden to a score system, based around the idea of striking being involved?

Because guard is a losing position in a fight not a neutral one.
