Cruisers also welcome.

This general might require some initial momentum; efforts to keep these threads going are appreciated.

Longbaorders are some of the biggest fags I've ever seen. Normal skateboarders at least have an aesthetic of being cool, longboarders just look like an assortment of redditors on their way to fuck each other up the ass after taking another hit of weed. Fuck you bearded redditors, you're ruining skateboarding.

I went to the Beyond the Board in Phoenix and it was gay as fuck. They showed up 90 minutes late, had 3 "events" planned- a dance off, a 2 minute wheelbarrow race, and a dance competition. Couldn't have been worse. Brandon Dejarlais sucks my penis hard

I do both. Skateboarding is for doing tricks on ramps, rails, whatever. Longboarding is for going fast as shit down a really big hill. You can do that on a skateboard too I guess but it's not as smooth of a ride.

its scary as shit to hit hills on a regular skateboard, speed wobbles can put you down so fast. Been looking at getting a longboard for just cruising around easier than with my skateboard...anyone have any recommendations? something with kicktails would be cool. Local shop doesn't carry longboards...

Anonymous No. 152341

>>152324
For something with a kicktail, look at cruisers. For ease of cruising, consider that wheel diameter affects ride smoothness but also ride height which affects pushing effort, and consider that leg length affects pushing effort (longer legs bend less to lower the body enough to reach the ground). Coming from a regular skateboard, I'd first look for something with the widest diameter wheels I think I'd be comfortable pushing with, and then consider the other attributes such as deck width, etc. I hesitate to recommend any models or brands, but go ahead and ask for opinions on particular purchase decisions.

My skateboard wheels are 54mm and they do ok for the most part in my area, minus the occasional pebble covered street. I’m thinking I’ll grab a set of 70mm wheels and I suppose I’ll do some research and just grab whichever cruiser catches my eye based on that, I figure 70mm should handle pebbles and shit ok

Anonymous No. 152455

>>152424
Maybe you can achieve the same ride height effect by adding to your skateboard setup some cheap risers with the added benefit of mitigating the wheel bite variable.
Right now I'm looking at the LandYachtz Dinghy Fender complete with 72mm wheels. The unique deck with wheel flares and wheel wells and the risers give the impression that it is optimized for low ride height given the wheels but I'm annoyed that they don't show the ride height in the specs. Also considering the Fender Blunt with 63mm wheels and wider deck.

>>152424
I'm kinda backpedaling here, in your case deck width and wheelbase might matter more than wheel size, and those also affect ride height. Found a nice vid for visual comparison between different sized cruisers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch2SM7WOl4I

That was an informative video thanks. I’ll probably pull the trigger on something >32 inches and <40 inches with wheel-wells or flares or whatever they’re called when I get paid.

I know someone who is longboarding just for fun and had never fallen off once. But it must be noted that he is not the hill bombing type of guy. I personally live on a big hill and bomb the hill every time I commute to work. The more you ride the more you will get better naturally. Try to take it easy and comfortably. I guess 99% of the times you fall is because of how scared you might in the process. Don't rush it. Enjoy the ride.

i have a dinghy and a tugboat and i like the tugboat better. the dinghy is now a loaner board

Anonymous No. 155550

>>155545
It would make for a more stable and less squirrely ride. For reference the Dinghy Blunt deck size would be between those two.

Anonymous No. 155552

>>155550
the tugboat is longer and easier to kick up into my hand when i need to stop suddenly and carry my board like at a crosswalk. also there is more real estate for my feet and they don't need to be exactly perfect on the deck.

Where can I buy some type of brake soles from in the USA? I wore out the soles of yet another pair of skate shoes longboarding and I am sick of paying for new shoes after getting barely use out of them. I hear that brake soles make skate shoes last far longer and they can replaced after they wear out.

Freebrake soles are sold out from every online store in the USA:
https://www.motionboardshop.com/products/freebrake-foot-brake-soles
https://www.muirskate.com/products/freebrake-foot-brake-soles
https://dadskates.com/product/free-brake-grip-soles/

Urethane Burner brake soles can be ordered from somewhere in Europe but the shipping would probably cost too much:
https://www.urethaneburners.com/product/ub-brake-soles/

It seems that I can order from Canada:
https://www.flatspotlongboards.com/new-freebrake-footbrake-brake-soles/

Do you think I would have to pay customs on them though?

nah fuck that.

The skateboard thread is only taking about life ending injuries. They may get all the attention/skill but longboarders get the simple joy of rolling around. Its fun and great exercise. Just lost several pounds. Also you can just have both, skateboards are cheap as fuck. Buy a longboard for when ya wanna just chill and carve.

>>152324
>>154421
theres a company making longboards with a braking system that kind of allows you to just chill down a huge hill without risking death. Its kind of insane these things dont have brakes. I have to bail or walk as soon as I get any speed and it super annoying sometimes...

IMO if your area has tons of big hills = you should just get something that can go back up them. Should only really be doing skateboarding in flatlands anyways so I didnt bother with it.

But still, I was kind of impressed by it. The only issue is ya woulnt want that shit on a short cruiser style board.

>>151331
>npc

Ya know, some of us have ~1 mile commutes. IMO its all the fucks just walking who are the bots. Walking is chill but buying a longboard has given me true euphoric joy that I seldom feel anymore. And its so optional, can do or dont as you please. Having one of these is fantastic.

weird this pops up as I start to get into downhill. any tips on pendelum/coleman slide? I can come to a stop well but I can't swing back around, I'm not gripping the board and I have my hand free, do I just have to be going faster?
