but the place they're sitting right now is like a weird transitionary space that doesn't actually exist
it's like when people start on the knees. This isn't a real position, there will never be any occasion in which you're on your knees face to face with each other and grip fighting
and almost everybody in bjj starts in that position when they train which is why they're bad at grappling
