🧵 /sg/ - Sailing General

Anonymous No. 158645

The First Edition

>Who is this for?
Anyone interested in sailing, or anyone that currently sails and wants more information.

>Should I get into sailing?
If you're by a body of water that you can sail on, why not?

>How?
Look into local sailing associations, or yacht clubs. Oftentimes they have memberships that are wallet friendly, and allow access to their fleet of day sailers, or allow you to crew on racing vessels

>How do I buy a sailboat?
Great question - hopefully this general takes off and people will share their experience

Anonymous No. 158647

okay

just because what you're doing involves doing something niche and daunting

DOESNT MAKE IT A FUCKING EXTREME SPORT

There is a disk golf general, this is much more extreme than that. Where would you recommend this goes? Sports? With the Football, American Football, Basketball, etc??

You can still get a wild ride on smaller boats. Look at beach cats. And what about moths? That shit is wild. Or international canoe?

>sailing isn't extreme
My ass it isn't.

lets just say hypothetically I had $300k lying around and bought this
what size crew would I need to run this thing and circumnavigate the globe?

keep in mind I have no boating experience, I would basically just strut around pretending to be the captain and telling the crew where I want to head next

The outhaul especially is on much more than needed for the conditions... Ease everything off a little and power up instad of stalling out, go block to block and do some chad full-extension, straight leg hiking with the head level with the deck and the toe strap supporting just the tip of the toes. Pansy bent leg upright hiking is for slow losers. Probably just expecting too much from a radial sailor though desu.

>tfw always dreamt of sailing
>grew up inland with no accessible lakes nearby
Feels bad bros. Now I do live and practice near a lake, but I feel like I'll never be one of those world class sailors.
