Should more MMA promotions allow fighters to use the Gi if they want?

I wouldn't mind seeing the odd special event. Mix in some of the old ways, like allowing wrestling shoes in exchange for being unable to use head kicks.

>odd special event
Fuck it, I want to see a full gi-only mma promotion. Let’s see how it changes the fight. Call it gi-spot champions.

Goodridge did it back in the days once or twice. A Gi is nice for the show but I would say it is more of a disadvantage than anything else

I like it, if for nothing else, being slightly more realistic. I mean when do you forsee two dudes fighting in their undies? Then again I don't expect to see people fighting in glorified bathrobes either but still.

Only semi-related but here's my idea for an MMA promotion.
So I thought this up after reading a conversation about how gi or no-gi grappling is more realistic, people on the street wear clothes which is the usualy defence used for gi, but someone countered saying a lot of people will just take their shirt off when the fight starts.
So here's what I'm thinking, what if both fighters started wearing gi but were allowed to take them off at any point during the match? Their opponent doesn't have to let them take it off either. How would a systyem like this realistically play out in competition?

Sir, I live down south.
Most fights are done in shorts or similar states of undress because it's too hot most of the year to wear a bunch of cloths, especially if you are fixing to fight.

It's a debuff anyways
All it does is give the opponent better grips

True, but atleast you can do some lapel and Gi chokes with it.

空道 Kūdō exists as well as sambo for this type of fighting.

Throw in some hot oil and a stripper pole and I think you got a winner.

wearing a gi is a disadvantage.

>oh yeah lets give my opponent free, easy to retain grips

The GI can be an absolute weapon for the person wearing it in many cases. For example a guy grabs the collar, the grabbed can use that grip to start a throw.

>bartitsu
Actual meme. It was never “alive” and popular and the only reason anyone even knows about it today is because of a one off mention in a Sherlock Holmes book. Also training it automatically turns you into a fedoralord. Proceed with caution.
