Would the ufc benefit from adding men's strawweight and women's atomweight?
Anonymous at Tue, 22 Aug 2023 19:24:26 UTC No. 163035
Honestly they should get rid of anything below featherweight and create an absolute with no limit

the fights aren't exciting when theres no possibility of a knock out

I wouldn't say watching 10 fights, 6 of which ends with a knockout, 1 ends with submission by guillotine and 3 lasting for 5 rounds even though fighters emptied their gas tanks in the second round is less exciting than watching 10 fights, 1 of which ends with a high iq knockout, 2 by submissions and 7 lasted for 5 rounds and both fighters were agile until the end

Remove weight classes and add knuckledusters, and I'll watch your sport.

Nah, you wouldn't. Just try watching those early UFC matches from the 90s. There actually is such a thing called too brutal..

I wouldn't say early ufc was too brutal too watch. The main problem with it was lack of mma skills because people hadn't discovered how to fight in mma by that time.

We should have no weight classes, heavyweight men should be fighting featherweight women

I actually kinda like the idea of an "open" class. It'll never happen, but it would make for an exciting freakshow.

Early UFC is weak shit compared to the legit no rules vale tudo in the 80s/90s.

Yeah that's the ones I meant, stuff like Absolute Fighting Championship, weren't they the predecessor to UFC. Stuff like a downed guy getting kicked multiple times in the head or eyes getting gouged with someone's chin during a grapple. Ground and pound without a referee stopping. Kinda feels bad watching athletes destroying eachother like that.

Justing Gaethje vs Michael Chandler didn't end in a KO and it's one of the best fights of the past decade. KO is irrelevant to a fight being good.

It'd be nice if the UFC was able to get the commissions to approve no limits open weight again. Would be a cool throwback to early UFC. Can Brandon Moreno beat Tai Tuivasa? Only one way to find out.

I remember watching this fight at home and I don't think I sat on my couch for more than 30 seconds total for the whole fight. Real edge of your seat stuff. I thought Chandler was done in the 2nd round but he came back.

Chandler was entertaining as fuck to watch. Kind of understand his frustration when most of anything he does to the opponent doesn't work and he just stands there unfazed
