How does one get into MMA? I've been trying to get into the sport since my teens but there are so many fighters and lore that I just get lost and end up dropping it, only to try to get into it again years later. I really like fighting but unlike other normie sports like soccer or football, MMA just harder for me to get into.

This board is (ostensibly) for participants not spectators. Pretty sure /sp/ has a heem thread for mma.

First you should know a bit about fighting. You don't need to train fighting yourself but you need to know what's happening on the screen. Watch Ramsey Dewey, Hard2hurt etc. Second, check out MMA legends and their fights. My personal favorite fights are Fedor Emielianienko vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira III, Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva I, Jon Jones vs Rampage Jackson (and generally Jones' fights from 2011-2018), Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor Mcgregor, Demetrious Johnson vs Henry Cejudo II, Demetrious Johnson vs Adriano Moraes I and II but there was many more cool fights. Third, you can buy UFC fight pass but shit is expensive so you can either pay and watch together with someone else or just not buy it and watch some fights that they show on youtube.

You are talking about practicing it right? Mma is not really a hobby. Only consider if AFTER you do its components art at your local gym that does mma. And only do it if you're a serious hobbyist/aspiring pro willing to take the risks.

most people should stick doing a striking art and grappling, seperate classes. all of them should start like this before moving on to combining it such as taking ACTUAL mma classes

Start with bjj and boxing. They are the easiest to find gyms for and get into.
Boxing you can arguably practice the fundamentals on your own, but proper coaching and sparring are essential if you want to make any real progress.

Bas Rutten has good videos. Never underestimate the damage a good open hand or liver punch can deliver.
