๐Ÿงต Is it too late for me to become a pro boxer?

Anonymous No. 176305

Hey everyone, hope you're doing well. I'm 22 and just started boxing a month ago and I absolutely love it. I want to become a pro boxer and I'm ready to dedicate my life to it. Do you think I'm delusional or can I make it?

I'm 265. Are you saying that to start at this age, I will need to compete in heavier weight classes?

Yes the skill level is far lower in the heavier weight classes

Are you 6 feet at least? Otherwise I wouldn't consider it, you need height and reach as well as weight to be proficient in boxing.

Hijacking your thread to ask a similar question
I'm the same age, but I've had previous training. Serious gyms are extremely hard to find in my area, the only one were the coach was serious about putting me to compete closed during covid.
Really how do I go about becoming amateur so I can go pro? Is there no other way than to rely on a coach to get you fights?
I've been looking for gyms for 2 years now and the best I have found at this point has a fat woman in the "advanced" class and the coach is clearly just after weed money.

If you're American, look up whether you need a license or not for amateur fights in your state. If so, you'll have to go through whoever does that. In general, looking for a USA Boxing gym is a pretty good metric, but a perfect one. They've got their affiliates on their site, but do your own digging on it as well.

If your actually serious go to the Phillipines or Thailand and live at one the boxing camps for dirt cheap. If you can hang tough for about a year you can come back to the states

If you're a genetic freak and have enough raw talent anything is possible, you aren't that though.

Lots of pros didn't start until much later. Boxing, any fighting really, is not a mentally challenging thing 99.9% of fighters, even before getting CTE, are borderline retarded. So if you can get your athleticism up & you got quick mind, you could have a shot. Crazier things have happened.

Professional boxing? Probably, Unless you're gifted. Now if you want to be in UFC or kickboxing, Then you'd have a higher chance of that if you trained for 5-7 years. You can definitely do point muay thai or grappling tournaments

Anyone can go pro. Not anyone can make decent cash doing it, though. Stick with amateur boxing imo, and don't worry about trying to make a living at it...
