Wrestling would be better but boxing is easier to get into
In the end both work if you're good

Anonymous No. 184923

Speaker as a boxer/judoka (also did collegiate wrestling in public school), why not do both?

With boxing, you know how to guard yourself against punches (though no concept of Muay cut kicks), use your elbows to stop an attacker's punch (this hurts a lot and can even break their hand), how to slip and move, and other tools that set you above brawlers.

With wrestling, you know how to take a fall and know leverage & technique to seriously incapacitate someone.

If I could only pick one, and was young enough to train, then I'd pick wrestling. You can always bum rush a puncher while protecting your chin.

Just do Myau Thai + Greco-Roman, perfect combination both work from the clinch and are taught viably to adults or no gi BJJ if its found in your area.

Based. You can't get better than this and both are sports where you learn great values and make lots of friends.

Muay Thai might be an interesting art but it gets routinely outclassed by every other kickboxing style due to its lack of defense, it's only good if you train at it for very long

>>186379
then why do they win every cross-discipline competition that doesn't ban all of their options

Anonymous No. 186382

>>186381
If you added those options to the other arts then muay thai would cease existing, as a pure kickboxing art, it's technically inferior

What do you even mean by this? It has parries, leg grabs, checks etc.

That's the problem, it has too many things for the average fighter to use effectively, that's why they're bad at fundamentals. You need to be in the upper echelon to use all of these tools effectively. Also the hits are very telegraphic, the footwork is bad and the stance is too open, which is why pure muay thai failed in MMA.

>do you really not realize how fucking retarded you sound
Alright then let me paraphrase, if you added full body strikes and clinching to other schools of kickboxing then people would have no reason to learn muay thai, which is what ends up happening with MMA strikers anyway.

You're right, Japanese kickboxing and Muay Thai have the same kicks, punches, stances, footwork, fundamentals, defense, movement and technique

they would if you turn it into muay thai, which is what you're suggesting
